Ji-hoon’s intuition

Lee Ji-hoon (Kim Min-jae) saw Yoo Hyun-jae’s (Yoon Si-yoon) wrist watch which was similar to the one he inherited from his biological father. I was expecting him to suspect more about Hyun-jae’s real identity but he was distracted by other things. He plans to debut with the help of Lee Gwang-jae (Cha Tae-hyun). This is somewhat an expected turn of events as I was already thinking it would be great for the series if Ji-hoon would debut with the help of Gwang-jae and his real father. But I’m also expecting it wouldn’t be easy.

Ji-hoon also used his observant personality to notice Hyun-jae and Choi Woo-seung (Lee Se-young) were getting closer. So he did what desperate second leads usually do. He warned Hyun-jae to back off. Yah! Lee Ji-hoon! I’m actually rooting for you but you don’t have the right to tell someone to stop liking a person you aren’t even dating. Okay, he actually said it as a friend but STILL. If he really likes Woo-seung he should do more effort than that. Or maybe he is not really 100% into it. Maybe he should just focus on debuting.

Hyun-jae finally found out that the beeper number who called him belongs to Hong Bo-hee (Yoon Son-ha). It was sort of a code Bo-hee used when she was still secretly dating Hyun-jae. He also discovered CEO Park Young-jae (Hong Kyung-min) have his composition notebook. It contains things he wrote in 1994 before his disappearance. Instead of finding out the connection of this clues he was too busy with other things just like Ji-hoon.

Push and pull

I’m not jumping ship but I wanted Hyun-jae to stop his non-sense of letting go the girl he likes just because someone told him to stop. I get it. His situation is more complicated than that BS friendship rules on the relationship. But still, I thought Hyun-jae is not this type of character. I guess, he is correct when he said he is different from the guy in the past. He is now sensitive to people’s feelings.

Also, they used a sequence similar to La La Land to show Hyun-jae wanting a different ending with Woo-seung. I’m torn if I like that it was similar (because that is the only part in the movie I really like) or hate it because it lacks originality. It took away what was supposed to be a heart-wrenching scene. At least, the series redeemed itself on that hug-under-the-rain act.

Maknae’s episode verdict

This episode filled the lack of progress from the previous episodes. The main characters are getting more details about Hyun-jae’s disappearance. The stakes are now higher on the love-lines. I may be frustrated with the decisions of some of the characters but isn’t it a proof of a good drama when you want to jump in the story and helped them solve the conflict?
