Call it fate, destiny or kismet, our four main leads are meant to meet again. Let’s delve into Ruler: Master of the Mask Episodes 11-12 on how the stars of our main characters cross paths anew.
Crown Prince Lee Sun x Ga-eun
The Crown Prince may no longer be donned in royal garments but he still sure knows how to rescue a damsel in distress. From a gentle and well-mannered royalty, Crown Prince Lee Sun now looks more like a sexy bandit. Not complaining though, I actually like this more rugged look on oppa.
While spying on Pyunsoo-hwe to find out why they are hoarding copper, Crown Prince Lee Sun coincidentally saw Ga-eun after five years. Ga-eun is on her way to ask the help of the Chief Peddler but was mistaken by Master Dae-mok’s group as a spy.
Of course, rescuing your first love is a must for every prince. And with the help of hot bodyguard, Chung-woon, Crown Prince Lee Sun was able to get Ga-eun to safety.
And with another twist of fate, the Chief Peddler that Ga-eun is searching for turns out to be the crown prince.
Crown Prince Lee Sun x Hwa-gun
In order to resolve the dilemma of store owners and peddlers in paying back their debt to the Bureau of Water Supply, Crown Prince Lee Sun sought the help of merchants. And who could their leader be? None other than the spunky Hwa-gun.
The look on Hwa-gun’s face when she saw the crown prince after ages was a bit pitiful, at least for me. It’s somewhere between I’m happy you’re alive like I prayed for but also sad that you don’t even recognize me.
Commoner Lee Sun x Ga-eun
While delivering medicinal herbs at the palace, Ga-eun crossed paths with the fake king. It’s just sad that when she saw him, all she can think about was her father’s death.
Crown Prince Lee Sun, the Denial King
I am now naming Crown Prince Lee Sun as this drama’s denial king.
The Mystery of the Black Bandanna
Maybe this bandanna has special powers or is mystical in any form, cause it sure held on while Crown Prince Lee Sun was fighting with Pyunsoo-hwe members and dramatically fell off when he was alone with Ga-eun. Maybe the fighting or the horse ride made it loose, I don’t know, it will remain a big mystery to me. Magic.
Commoner Lee Sun Growing Some B, Meeting a Friend
More than Ga-eun and the crown prince meeting again, this is my favorite development of the story. After years of playing as Master Dae-mok’s puppet king, Commoner Lee Sun for the first time had the courage to say no to Pyunsoo-hwe. I felt so proud when he denied the group’s request to execute those who stole water from the Bureau. He was fuelled by the memory of his father’s death to stand up against the powerful faction. I can’t wait for the day when our lovely Commoner Lee Sun will finally be able to cut his marionette strings.
Among our leads, I feel that Commoner Lee Sun’s situation is the most woeful. Come to think of it, Crown Prince Lee Sun and Ga-eun may have lost their loved ones and wealth but they found new families that treasure them, while Commoner Lee Sun is stuck in a cold palace, living under a mask and has no one to trust or turn to. Even his life depends on whether Master Dae-mok will give him a poppy pill or not. This is why I’m more than happy that when he’s just about to give up, he finally met someone he can call his person.
The battle between Ga-eun and Hwa-gun’s love for Crown Prince Lee Sun now begins.
Here’s another heart-touching OST from Ruler: Master of the Mask, Kim yeon-ji’s Between Seasons.
Tipsy’s fave line: “So I act like I’m happy and laugh even with pain.
See you on the next episode fellow K-Drama drunkards. Annyeong!
