Ah, this show! I love it when the story line makes me think twice about the twists and turns leading up to the main conflict. This week’s episode has another mind-boggling cliffhanger which honestly, I don’t mind. The writing is so damn good that I have to spend the entire week consuming all the bombs dropped by the show while waiting for the next episode!

Part 1: Beta Project (2017)

Circle 3 (1)

The opening part leads us to the tense conversation between Kim Woo-jin (Yeo Jin-goo) and Han Jung-yeon (Gong Seung-yun). Woo-jin asked about her real identity, but Jung-yeon seems to be puzzled by Woo-jin’s interrogation. We also witness his first encounter with Detective Hong Jin-hong (Seo Hyun-chul). After learning that Woo-jin is the twin brother of Kim Beom-gyun (Ahn Woo-yeon), Detective Hong questions him on the whereabouts of his brother, who is now a suspect in the suicide cases of students in their university.

Circle 3 (2)

So Jung-yeon was apparently a friend of one of the suicide victims. Woo-jin is still suspicious of her identity so she showed him her collection of pieces of evidence pertaining to the suicide cases. She was allegedly a friend of the first suicide victim. Interestingly, she found out that all suicide victims displayed the same symptoms of headache and nose bleeding days before their deaths.

I love how this drama is very daring in its plot, but keeps us glued on our chairs to watch it. I was starting to believe Jung-yeon’s words and was ready to let go of the fact that she showed up at Beom-gyun’s apartment uninvited. I was about to believe that she was only trailing Beom-gyun to find out if he was indeed involved in the suicide cases in the university. But then again, it proved me wrong. After she showed up outside the “alien’s hideout” which Beom-gyun mentioned before he went missing, I am convinced that she is not just an ordinary character. I will never trust Jung-yeon again!

Also, two other people I don’t trust in this series are the university professors. My wildest guess would be those two professors are involved in the students’ deaths and the micro robot found on the cadavers.

Circle 3 (23)

Bluebird. Who are you? I have this theory about the role of the micro robot discovered by Woo-jin from the newest suicide victim’s body in the existence of Smart City in the future. Take note that the hidden identity we are all looking for in this series is named “Bluebird” and what we found on the body of the suicide victim is a worm (micro robot). Birds feed on worms, right? Is it a prototype testing for the Human B system? But why does Jung-yeon breed it?

Yes, my friends. Beom-gyun is alive as of this episode, locked up inside the “alien’s hideout” (it’s an abandoned psychiatric hospital) and despite spending the night with Woo-jin tracing pieces of evidence together, she still managed to surprise me after showing up in front of the hideout. Wow girl, you sure have that sly personality.

Part 2: Great New World (2037)

Poor Lee Ho-soo (Lee Ki-kwang)! So that’s what the Human B system has been doing to the Smart City residents! Our hero and his team discover that the Human B apparently erases and locks the memories of its citizens. Those micro chip which acted as a calming mechanism not only prevents the residents to feel extreme emotions, but also deletes their ugly memories.

Circle 3 (16)

Ho-soo starts to see blurry visions of his past in this episode. We see his sad past with his girlfriend who passed away. This important development will determine the position of Ho-soo in this series for me. Though he interfered when Detective Kim Joon-hyuk (Kim Kang-woo), I want to have faith in his character that he will eventually side to the General City’s police and help them reveal the wrongdoings of the Human B system.

I also want to put my trust in the hands of the Smart City mayor. The fact that he asked Ho-soo about his view on the Human B system means that he is open to the possibility that the system is flawed. I just hope this public servant is really working for the welfare of his constituents.

Circle 3 (13)

And lastly my  friends, our hero Joon-hyuk apparently does not remember his real identity! I was really convinced that he was Woo-jin, but now I don’t want to conclude anymore. We just have to keep an open eye for every hint dropped by the show so that we won’t be left behind. But honestly, this time my cards are telling me that Joon-hyuk is Beom-gyun hyung. What’s your guess?
